Integrity & Winning Every Day
Unlike other candidates, I don’t accept contributions nor seek endorsements. As your mayor, I won’t have campaign debts and endorsements to pay back with public funds and contract favors. I will be free to serve the public good, not private benefit.
For me our civil rights are not an afterthought, they are the main event. If I were to win the mayor’s race by doing anything necessary to win, I would feel like I had lost. But each day that I bring focus to these important issues is a win for us all, and every day I feel like I have won. And I would like for you to feel like you have won by voting for me as your mayor. Vote for Dr. Bliss for mayor of Seattle.
As long as we elect our leaders through a process of legalized bribery in the form of campaign contributions, we will have the wealthy controlling our government, and we will continue to have our poor and minority communities largely shut out.

The Banquet
Every four years we throw a big democratic banquet where everyone has the right to vote and has equal say, but only on that one day. And on every other day of the year, the wealthy get to feast at that same banquet, determining what bills go forward and what do not, which candidates get nominated, which candidates get heard.
What good is freedom of speech if no one can hear you? I understand why voters are apathetic in our country. Our voices on election day are mostly drowned out by the noisy market of buying and selling of elected officials' votes. Legalized bribery of public officials is the number one cause of institutionalized racial inequality. Legalized bribery undermines real equal outcomes, and until we change this one legalized bribery in the form of campaign contributions we will continue to have a society of rich vs. poor, white vs. black. This is why I am running for mayor and and this is why I am not accepting donations of any kind.

Favoring the Wealthy
Our voucher system does give some money to some candidates, but it heavily favors those who have wealth and wealthy donors. Candidates advertise early with private funds to get more access to public funds. Our voucher system is more about one dollar one vote, and not one person one vote. This corrupts our democracy and enforces racial inequality . This is why I am running for mayor and this is why I am not taking vouchers - or donations.
Endorsements often have similar outcomes to donations. Our police union contract protects police officers who take away our civil rights was signed by both our mayoral candidates who served on the city council who were endorsed by the police when they ran for office. This year, everyone is shying away from police endorsements, but candidate are taking other endorsements, such as teacher’s union endorsements that limit our children’s choices.
Too often endorsements are a sign of private interest support, not of public interest. Too often endorsements are a tool of institutionalized inequality.
This is why I am running for mayor and this is why I am not seeking endorsements.

Make a Commitment
If there were just one thing we could do that would sustainability change institutionalized racism, it would be to stop voting for candidates who accept private funds to win public office. This single flaw of legalized bribery repeatedly overwhelms all of our other efforts to right the systematic wrongs of our government. This is why I am running for mayor. To give people a choice of a candidate who is not beholden to private interests and will serve the people. Today, all a candidate really needs to get their message across is a website.
As voters, we can change this legalized form of bribery by simply committing ourselves to vote for those candidates who do not accept campaign contributions. If we all committed to this one single principle, it would end our system of economic injustice that drives inequality, keeps the poor poor and inequality alive.
Join me In solidarity. Vote for Dr. Bliss for Mayor of Seattle.
