Why am I running for Mayor?
To end the tearing down of our country and our system of governance and begin a new paradigm of positive change.
What is going wrong?
We are blaming each other for what is wrong with our system.  Our system of governance is inherently unjust and unsustainable.
What is the root cause?
The reason, simply put, is
Economic Injustice

THE WHAT ABOUT WHY I AM RUNNING FOR MAYOR:

Carl Jung Said: What you resist persists.

Rewarding good behavior and neutralizing bad behavior creates positive change. Spending time focusing on bad behavior and punishing it often leads to more bad behavior.  This is why time outs work where negative reinforcements otherwise known as punishments often do not.  Creating incentives for what we value and giving time outs judiciously is much more effective than punishing bad behavior.

Consider widely, Choose wisely.

Too often we focus our energies on what we don’t want and forget to think about what we do want instead.  I think this lack of vision for the future is a big reason why the occupy movement failed and also why the democratic party has become so unpopular nationwide.  While we must fight injustice, the best way to do so is to replace it with justice.

Choosing the lesser of two evils in philosophical terms is known as a devil's choice, and the outcome is never fully satisfactory and more often than not it is disastrous.  We should not allow ourselves to be forced to choose between one child and another, one person and another, between safety and liberty, or any other forced choice.  This principle is also about making a new positive paradigm, one of inclusiveness and opportunity.

W. Edwards Deming Said: Every system is perfectly designed to get the results it gets

Making wise choices requires a deep understanding of the underlying systems involved, Understanding the root causes of a problem and also understanding the often wide reaching implications of making a change

Stand for real equality.

Equity too often is about replacing one injustice with another. We must end the injustice.   “An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind”  Mahatmas Gandhi.   We don’t fight fires with fire, we fight fires with water, rescue and care for the injured, and then we start making decisions that prevent fires in the first place.  Equity without equality looks a lot like revenge rather than justice.

Create Opportunity.

Education is one of the best paths to a better life.  Education can be practical like learning to be an electrician or more theoretical like learning to be an Electrical Engineer at a University.  A person often learns much on the job and by listening to the experience of others.  Opportunity is the opposite of oppression.  It creates space to grow

Strive for Excellence.

Standards are important.  We all want to go to doctors who are not just competent, but excellent at what they do.  We all want quality products that do the job well and have lasting value.  The solution to helping those who have been left behind is to give them ongoing opportunities to succeed.  Some people take longer to learn one subject and are faster in another.  We all progress at different rates.  Diversity is about appreciating the differences in each of us.  When we try to make the outcomes the same for everyone, we fail to see what each person has to offer.  When someone has failed to have the same educational opportunity due to illness, a pandemic, or limited school choice, we should continue to give them opportunities to learn at their own pace and continue for as long as needed for them to achieve mastery.

Meritocracy.

This is about giving people jobs based on what they have to offer.  Diversity of viewpoint and experience is often very valuable, and in my opinion, it is one of the things that makes the United States of America a great place for innovation, understanding, and equality.

Integrity.

Integrity is not about being forever selfless.  We all need to focus on our self interests, self-protection, self-nurturing, self-propagation, self-fulfillment.  We need to find ways to develop our talents and use our privileges, our blessings for the benefit of ourselves and others.  When we ignore our basic human drives, we may find ourselves behaving erratically.  Thinking about doing something is not the same as doing something.  All our feelings and fantasies are valid and should not be judged but accepted and carefully considered.  On the other hand our actions should be judged and we should hold ourselves and others accountable for their behavior, particularly when it is injurious to others.

Take responsibility for yourself.

As an adult, you need to make difficult choices.  Part of Integrity is knowing yourself, and you cannot get to know yourself without having experiences.  Sometimes you will make mistakes.  It’s very important to say your sorry to yourself and to others and to take corrective action and make amends if necessary.  Then hopefully you can forgive yourself and move on.

Forgiveness of others.

Use this same process with others.  While you may be able to offer someone forgiveness even when they don’t ask for it or acknowledge the harm that they have done, do not allow yourself to be repeatedly abused. “Fool me once, shame on you, fool my twice, shame on me”  Italian Proverb.   Reconciliation is based upon a person acknowledging the harm and changing behavior.
